The shot involves tracking backwards down a long corridor, in front of the artist who runs away from a pursuer or alternatively chases us, the viewer. This may be a hand-held, dolly or steadicam shot. The corridor is moodily, low-key lit, with bands of light emanating from doorways, and shafts of light from the ceiling at intervals.

Problem: We want to keep the low-key lighting intact but while this shot runs for quite a considerable time we want a hint of the emotion on the face and in the eyes of the artist. But it’s a fast move and using an AC powered light would involve considerable time to set up, it would create the problems of a trip hazard, and would be difficult to maintain constant distance between the camera light and the artist.

Solution: kisslite, george – this can be set at a level with it’s onboard dimmer low enough to preserve the ambient lighting emanating from the ajar doorways and skylights but high enough to catch glints in the eyes, and teeth. The light source doesn’t create nasty nose shadows or ‘badger eyes’. The light can be mounted on the camera lens and the battery belt and power regulator unit strapped round the waist of the operator, keeping the overall weight to a minimum, not adding any extra cables or personnel into the equation.
